What is the Jesse Tree?

The idea of the Jesse Tree is based on Isaiah 11:1, in which Jesus is referred to as a shoot growing from the stump of Jesse, King David’s father. To use the Jesse Tree during the Advent season, you start with the Old Testament and work your way up to Jesus’ birth {on December 25th} hanging ornaments on a Christmas tree. With each story, you want to help your kids see how Jesus is the main character throughout the entire Bible.

While you an incorporate the ornaments on your regular Christmas tree, we’ve always had a smaller Christmas tree dedicated just to be our Jesse Tree.

Grab the Advent Jesse Tree devotional for children and adults. We use it every year we do the Jesse Tree.

Printable Jesse Tree Ornaments

I was a part of a Jesse Tree ornament make-and-swap years ago, but you may prefer some easy-peasy printable ornaments. {I don’t blame you. That make-and-swap was a lot of work!}

In my printable pack, you’ll find 25 ornaments plus a few extras like Mary, Joseph, and the wise men.

Printable Jesse Tree Ornaments - two options - Alive and Growing @ Home

The printable ornaments come in two options: with pictures and with words, as you can see in the image above. Each option comes in color AND blackline. {If you have kids who really like to color, I’d recommend letting them color the pictures to make their own ornaments.}

If you want your ornaments to last year after year, print them on cardstock, laminate, and/or glue to colorful scrapbook paper. Then hole-punch the circle at the top of each ornament so it can be hung on your tree using a decorative string or a hook.
